Praia City - The Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, visits Cape Verde, today and Sunday, meeting with his counterpart, Ulisses Correia e Silva, and with the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, reported the website Notícias ao Minute.

The visit begins with a working meeting between the two prime ministers and a joint press conference, at the Government Palace, in Praia, the Cape Verdean capital.

After taking office, Luís Montenegro had a first telephone conversation with his Cape Verdean counterpart on April 4th and, today, one of the topics of conversation should be the VII Portugal-Cape Verde Summit, scheduled for the second semester, in Portugal, but still no date.

This is the first visit outside Europe by the new Portuguese head of government, which he intends to symbolize a "commitment to the bilateral relationship", according to the prime minister's office.

During the afternoon, the program includes visits to a renewable energy center that operates near the capital and the technology park that is being built in the city of Praia.

The energy transition and the commitment to the digital economy have been two of the themes on the list of priorities presented by the Cape Verdean Government.

At the end of the afternoon, Luís Montenegro will be received at the National Assembly by the body's president, Austelino Correia, followed by a meeting with the head of state, José Maria Neves, at the presidential palace.

On Sunday, the agenda includes a visit to the historic site of Cidade Velha, where a meeting will take place with representatives of the Portuguese community, which concludes the program.

At the end of the month, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will travel to Cape Verde, between April 30th and May 2nd, for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the Tarrafal concentration camp, at the invitation of his counterpart, José Maria Neves.
