Luanda - An Angolan delegation participates in the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), taking place from this Monday until the 21st, in Washington DC, United States of America.
The Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, who heads the delegation, said that Angola hopes that its participation in the event will be another opportunity to better understand macroeconomic and financial trends worldwide, as well as identify the main areas of greatest interest of foreign investors.
He stated that the Angolan delegation will participate in seminars, workshops and bilateral meetings, to strengthen relations with potential global investors, with a view to strengthening Angola's growth and development strategy.
“We hope that our participation in the also known Spring Meetings of the Bretton Woods Institutions will serve to obtain interesting initiatives and proposals, which will allow us to sustain our public investment needs and attract foreign direct investment for our country”, he said.
The Angolan delegation includes the governor and deputy governor of the National Bank of Angola, Tiago Dias and Pedro Castro de Silva, respectively, the Secretary of State for Planning, Luís Epalanga, the president of the Board of Directors of the Sovereign Fund of Angola, Armando Manuel, and representatives from various ministerial departments and public institutes.
During the Spring Meetings of the Bretton Woods Institutions, which brings together the world's largest operators in the economic and financial sector, the members of the Angolan delegation will be divided according to the themes of the seminars, round tables and discussion panels.

Minister Vera Daves is also expected to participate in the meeting of ministers and governors with the G-20, in the meeting of the African Consultative Group (AfricanCaucus), as well as meetings with the general director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, the director of the Department of African Affairs at the IMF, Abebe Selassie, among other entities.
Also on the agenda is a meeting with the Monetary and Capital Department, banking institutions such as Deutsche Bank, Crédit Agricole Bank, Citi Bank, Bank Trust&Co and Afreximbank.
The annual meetings of the BM and the IMF, addressed to ministers and central bank governors, bring together the main figures from the international economic and financial scene, aiming to address the global macroeconomic situation, as well as analyze concrete issues related to the African and Angolan regional situation, in particular.
The meeting also brings together business leaders from the private sector, representatives of civil society organizations, academics and parliamentarians, to debate global economic perspectives, the eradication of poverty, economic development and the efficiency of support.
Angola has been a member of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund since 1989 and, in recent years, has been cementing its relationship with these institutions, through specific programs, with a view to improving the management and consolidation of national accounts, improving investment mechanisms and the promotion of the country's economic and social growth.
